How to License My Pet

If you live in a community where DocuPet is the official licensing partner, it's time to get your furry friend their pet license!

Pet licenses are a must in nearly every community across North America—they help keep our pets and neighborhoods safe! Plus, if your furry friend ever goes missing, having a license makes it easier to bring them home. By licensing your pet, you’re also supporting important animal welfare programs and protection services in your area!

Step 1: 

Login to your online account.

Step 2: 

Once you’re logged in, you’ll land on your Dashboard. Look for a banner with a link to kick off the license process—it’s super easy! Don’t see the banner? No worries! Just click on 'License Now' under your pet’s name, and you’re all set to get started!

 

Step 3: 

Take a moment to make sure your contact information is correct, then click 'Continue' to proceed! If your community offers senior pricing, you’ll be prompted to enter your date of birth at this step.

 

Step 4: 

Depending on your community's requirements, we’ll ask for some key details about your pet during the licensing process. Here’s what you need to know:

• Neutered/Spayed Status: Simply select "Yes" or "No" to indicate if your pet has been neutered or spayed.

• Microchip Information: If your pet is microchipped, great! Enter the details if you have them handy. If not, no worries—you can always update this information later.

• Rabies Vaccination: Up-to-date rabies documentation is required in communities that link licensing to vaccination status. Some communities also connect the expiration of the license to the expiration of the rabies vaccination. Don’t forget to keep this updated in our system as your pet’s rabies vaccination is re-administered every one, two, or three years by your veterinarian.

Having this information ready will make the process quick and easy! 😊

Step 5: 

Take a moment to double-check your pet’s details and upload any documents your community requires and click 'Continue'. This step might look a little different depending on your community’s specific needs.

Step 6: 

On the License Selection screen, you can choose from multiple license terms if your community offers them. If only one term is available, no problem—it will be automatically selected for you! 😊

If your community offers temporary licenses or license extensions, you’ll see a notice in red text here. Please read this carefully, as your license might expire when your pet’s rabies vaccination does. Want to learn more? Check out our Temporary Licenses Explained article for all the details.

Additionally, any license-related disclaimers for your community will appear on this screen. Be sure to review everything thoroughly before clicking 'Continue' to move forward.

Step 7: 

On the Tag Selection screen, you’ll get to choose the perfect tag for your pet! Simply click 'Select a Tag' under your pet's name to browse our impressive catalog and find a design you’ll love.

Not interested in purchasing a tag? No problem! You also have the option to select a free municipal tag provided by your community. 😊

Step 8: 

Now it’s time to select options for your new tag! Here’s what to do:

1. Choose the size that’s best for your pet.
2. Decide if you’d like to personalize the tag with your pet’s name and your phone number.
3. Pick the type of connector you’d like to use to attach the tag to your pet’s collar.

Once you’ve made your selections, click 'Add to Basket' to proceed. It’s that easy! 😊

 

Step 9: 

If you’re licensing more than one pet, you’ll be taken back to the Tag Selection screen to pick a tag for each of your other pets. You’ll also have the option to add extra tags to your order if you’d like.

Once you’re happy with your tag selections, simply click 'Continue' to move forward. 

Keep in mind, if you’re purchasing a license, selecting a tag is required to complete your order. 😊

Step 10: 

After clicking 'Continue', you’ll have the option to purchase a HomeSafe™ Tracker—a fantastic tool to help keep your pet safe. Take a moment to check it out!

Not interested? No problem! Just scroll to the bottom and click 'Skip and Continue to Checkout' to move on.

Next, review your order and enter any promo codes you have, then click 'Checkout' to proceed to the Dontation screen. You're almost done! 😊

 

Step 11:

At this step, you’ll have the opportunity to add a donation to your order. DocuPet's Safe and Happy Fund helps support local shelters by contributing a portion of all designer tag sales and 100% of your direct donations.

Step 12:

To complete your order, take a moment to review everything, then enter your credit card information and click 'Place Your Order' to finish the process.
