Why does my pet need a DocuPet tag?
When communities partner with DocuPet, they’re not only signing up for easier pet licensing; they’re also signing up for better pet protection through enhanced reunification.
With DocuPet’s HomeSafe lost pet service, each pet is assigned a tag with a unique HomeSafe ID code that links to your pet’s digital profile. If your pet is found, all their critical information is accessible by searching for their tag ID on our website. This ensures lost pets can be safely cared for while being reunited with their owners.
What are the benefits of a DocuPet tag?
Your pet’s DocuPet tag is their official form of identification - it shows that your pet is licensed within your community.
If your licensing community requires rabies vaccinations, this tag doubles as proof that your pet’s shots are up-to-date.
Note that licenses and/or rabies certificates must be renewed based on your community’s licensing criteria.
With a DocuPet tag, your pet is automatically protected under our free 24/7 HomeSafe lost pet service. If someone finds your pet, they can easily report it on our website using the unique code found on your pet’s tag. Once reported, we’ll help to get your pet safely home.
Is my tag a lifetime tag?
Yes! As long as you can clearly read or scan the code on the back of your pet’s tag, you can reuse it year after year.
If the code gets a little too worn out, we recommend replacing your tag just in case your pet is found exploring on their own.
Note that whether you keep your old tag or get a new one, you’ll still need to renew your pet’s license.
What is your tag replacement policy?
DocuPet guarantees that the HomeSafe details on your tags will be crystal clear for a full year. If you run into any issues within the year, simply reach out to us at info@docupet.com and include the following:
- Photo of the tag
- A description of the issue
- Your account information or contact information
Why am I being charged for a tag?
Replacement tag cost: If your pet’s tag has become lost at any point, you are required to purchase a replacement tag.
Tag cost when renewing my pet’s license: To reduce waste, minimize environmental impacts, and lower shipping costs, a small fee is applied to tags during the license renewal process.
- If this is your first time licensing with DocuPet, you are required to get a new tag. You have the option to choose the free standard tag or one of our designer tags.
Note: Our tags are lifetime tags - as long as the code on the back of your pet’s tag is clear, you do not have to purchase a new tag with each license renewal.
Is my pet’s tag for their license, rabies, or microchip?
Great question! Your pet’s DocuPet tag is their official form of identification - not only is it useful if your pet ever goes on an unsupervised adventure, but it also acts as physical proof of licensing.
Your pet’s tag is linked to their online profile, which contains information about your pet. If your licensing community requires rabies vaccinations, this tag doubles as proof that your pet’s shots are up-to-date. Similarly, if your pet is microchipped and you have added that microchip number to your online account, then the tag can act as visible proof of your pet’s microchip.
Note that you will still need to renew your pet’s license periodically (depending on your licensing community) even if your pet has a legible DocuPet tag. Think of it like any other license – just because you have your driver’s license, it doesn’t mean it’s up to date; you still need to renew it!
